The fourth book in my paranormal apocalypse series, THEM: Gabby’s Run, is set to release in one week. Right now it’s with my layout editor/interior designer, so I should have both the final ebook and paperback versions ready for Kindle and print by the end of next week.
So what can readers expect with this next installment in the series?
This novel is a minor departure from the previous books in the series. The story is told from the perspective of Gabby Mendoza, one of Scratch Sullivan’s sidekicks that he picks up early in Book One: Incursion. In this book, readers will learn quite a bit more about Gabby, how she ended up at the Facility, who her mysterious uncle is, and what her relationship with Captain Lorena Perez, a.k.a. “The Doc,” entails.
I decided to write this book about Gabby because she has always intrigued me as a character, and I felt like there has been a lot of mystery surrounding her as the series has progressed. So, I wanted to let readers get to know her better, and I also wanted to fill in parts of the backstory that I just couldn’t address by writing from Scratch’s perspective.
As with all the novels in the series, you can expect this book to start in action and stay there, as it maintains a breakneck pace until the very last page. At approximately 46,000 words, it is the shortest novel in the series thus far, but I think readers will find it to be a very satisfying tale and a great addition to the series overall.
And as for the audio book version, right now I am looking for a female narrator who can legitimately do a Spanish accent. Gabby, being Mexican-American, throws more than a few Spanish words (and curse words) around in this book. I did my best to make her voice stay true to the South Texas dialect and lingo that I heard as a kid in Duval, Jim Wells, and Nueces Counties. Hopefully, I won’t embarrass the Perez side of my family with any of the Spanish in the book. :)
As I said, I hope to have the book out by the end of this week. If all goes well, I’ll be hitting the publish button on the Kindle platform on Saturday, June 25th. So, keep your fingers crossed!
