I’m nearly done with the initial draft of the first book in the Colin McCool series, which is a YA urban fantasy series planned for a release of five titles in 2013-2014. It’s the sort of story that I really enjoyed reading as a teen (and that I still enjoy reading) filled with lots of adventure, mayhem, and magic. There are plenty of folklore elements as well, but I don’t want to give away too much just yet…
Needless to say, writing this book has been a lot of fun, and it’s a welcome break from some of the other works in progress I have going right now. While this book does have its dark moments, for the most part it’s a light and funny romp through a modern urban fantasy adventure that I think you’ll have a great time reading.
The thing I love most about this book is the pacing. The story moves fairly quickly, and 90% of the events happen in one day. I’m a big fan of books that have a lot of action, and this one has it to spare. Also, there’s a nice twist or two towards the end that (hopefully) will surprise my readers… but you’ll have to wait for the book to come out to find out what happens. 🙂
I’m finishing up the last few chapters this week, then I’ll start my edits, and hopefully send it off to my editor the following week. I am working with a very talented cover artist for the jacket design, but I’ll likely upload it to the Kindle store with a temporary cover so I can get it out while I’m working on the sequel (you can see the temp cover I designed above, featuring a scene from the book).
I’ll post an update when I finish the draft, and maybe even share a sample chapter or two. Stay tuned!
