May Author Update from The World Beneath

Hey folks, it’s time for another author update from The World Beneath…

What I’m Writing

At the moment, I’m knee-deep into writing Book 11 in the Colin McCool series. This book required a bit more setting research than usual (those of you who’ve read Book 10 know why), so it took me a few weeks to get the details hammered out.

I like to have my research done before I start writing because stopping every five minutes to look up facts (like the average temperature in January in Reykjavik or the top-selling automobiles in Iceland) tends to slow down the writing process.

For those who are curious about what this book will entail, suffice it to say that I’ll be ramping up the stakes for our intrepid druid journeyman. Colin will be facing dangers that he hasn’t previously encountered and finding strengths that he didn’t know he had.

If all goes well, this book should drop around mid-June. Hopefully. No promises, but that’s what I’m shooting for at the moment.

What I’m Reading

Honestly, not much. When I’m working on a novel, I don’t like reading books that are in my genre or related genres. So instead of reading, I’ve been playing The Witcher 3 all the way through for the 3rd or 4th time.

That said, I have both a Joe Ledger and a Mercy Thompson novel waiting on my TBR list. I’ll probably tackle the Joe Ledger book first, then read the latest Briggs novel after I finish writing Druid Arcane.

What I’m Watching

This is going to sound oddball (go figure), but I’ve been watching this crazy YouTube channel called Hard2Hurt lately. The guy who runs it is a kickboxing coach who goes by “Icy Mike,” and that should tell you a lot about the content he produces.

The dude does all kinds of crazy stunts, mostly related to testing self-defense products, and the results are often hilarious. My personal favorite is the pepper spray test they did—I simply could not stop laughing.

Incidentally, “Icy Mike” also offers tips on martial arts training and self-defense on his channel, and for the most part, his advice is on point. If you’re interested in either of those topics, his vids are worth checking out.

Other News

Steven Barnett finished recording the audiobook files for Druid Mystic about a week or so back, and we’ve submitted them to Audible’s QA department for a quality assurance review. Twice, in fact.

The first time around the files got kicked back because the retail sample we chose included some curse words. Oops!

So, Steven chose another selection with considerably fewer expletives, and we resubmitted the files. Hopefully, it’ll hit Audible and Amazon in a few weeks.

However, if you buy your audiobooks from Apple, it’s already up for sale there:

I also found it on Google Play…

…and on Walmart’s website:

You should also be able to get it through your local library via Hoopla and/or Overdrive.

That’s all the news I have for now!
