New Halloween Urban Fantasy Novella: Blood Harvest
Great news! I have a new Halloween urban fantasy novel releasing this Friday, titled Blood Harvest.
This 32,000-word novella features Colin and various other Druidverse® characters facing down an old enemy who threatens to ruin Halloween for everyone’s favorite druid.
I wrote this story with the intention of creating a trope-filled, atmospheric romp through the paranormal Austin, Texas. Hopefully, you’ll enjoy reading this Halloween-themed urban fantasy story as much as I enjoyed writing it.
Here’s the synopsis:
Halloween has come again—the night of thinning veils, autumn winds, and dead rising—and for the last druid, survival on Samhain is anything but guaranteed…
I’m Colin McCool—last of the druids, heir to Fionn mac Cumhaill’s legacy, and magnet for supernatural trouble.
This All Hallows’ Eve, I planned to relax with my girlfriend and the Austin Pack. Instead, a creeping darkness has descended on the city, my wards are faltering, and monsters are coming out of the woodwork.
Now unseelie fae and undead horrors are hunting me across Austin, and they’ve made the mistake of threatening my friends and my home.
Samhain has always been a night when the veil thins between worlds, but this year, it’s shaping up to be a Blood Harvest…
And here’s an early review from one of my ARC readers:
Blood Harvest
By M.D. Massey
The Druid, Colin McCool, is back at the junkyard, elbows deep in a Gremlin—and just like that, it feels like coming home. Massey drops us into the story on Halloween (or Samhain, if you’re fey-inclined), which means the veil is thin and the weirdos are out.
Expect ghosties, spookies, and yes—pumpkins. But there’s more than seasonal frights this time. When an outbreak of the undead hits, things get messy fast.
Colin’s got a full plate and zero time for nonsense, which makes for a fast, fun read. Massey keeps the action moving, and there are just enough emotional beats to ground the chaos.
Fans of the series won’t be disappointed, and newcomers will quickly catch the vibe. If you like urban fantasy with bite, Blood Harvest is worth the ride.

The book drops on Friday, 10/10/2025, and you can read it for free if you’re a Kindle Unlimited member. Pre-order the book at this link:

Will this book be available in audio form?
Eventually, yes. I am still trying to decide how to produce it. Shorter works don’t do as well financially on Audible. I might combine it with another novella that needs audio, and publish them as a set.
