Urban Fantasy Author Update for October 2020

urban fantasy author update October 2020Hey folks, it’s time for another author update from yours truly. Here’s what I’ve been up to lately…

What I’m Reading

After slogging through a slush pile of recommended books (mostly from Amazon’s suggestion engine), I finally picked up Dakota Krout’s book Ritualist, the first in his popular LitRPG series.

I enjoy a good LitRPG story, and this series has all the humor and lightheartedness I look for when choosing books in this genre. If you’re a LitRPG fan and you haven’t read it yet, I recommend it.

What I’m Playing

I snagged Star Wars: Squadrons for the PS4 recently, and I’ve been playing through the single-player campaign between writing sprints.

It’s not a bad game, but despite the updated graphics and features I don’t find it to be nearly as fun as the 1983 rail shooter it’s loosely based on. Maybe it’s just nostalgia, but the original arcade game felt a lot more immersive than Squadrons.

What I’m Watching

I recently started watching Motherland: Fort Salem on Hulu. Despite the high production quality, it got way too “Traveling Pants-ish” for me in the first few episodes. So, I ditched it mid-season and started watching the CBS supernatural drama series Evil instead.

IMO, Evil hits its stride quickly in the first episode with a distinctly creepy atmospheric tone, excellent scriptwriting, and solid acting. And, it manages to capture the audience’s attention by pitting modern science against traditional religious beliefs in a manner that respects both while (thus far, I’m only four episodes in) never conclusively coming down on the side of either.

If you’re looking for a show that has plenty of horror and creep factor while being a bit out of the norm, you can find the complete first season streaming on Netflix.

What I’m Writing

Currently, I’m hip-deep in the first draft of Druid Master, Book 12 in the Colin McCool series.

Without giving too much away, I’ll say that this book will tie up some loose ends, and answer several questions that were left unanswered by previous entries in the series. Finally, it’ll set up a brand-new series that will feature Colin as he clashes with new enemies and tackles greater challenges.

But before I write that series, I’ll be releasing at least one spin-off series featuring either Crowley, Fallyn, or Belladonna. I haven’t decided which will be first yet, but Crowley’s series is in the running. Stay tuned…

The writing is excellent. Also, it stars Mike Colter from Luke Cage and Katja Herbers from Westworld.

How about a Hemi crossover? I mean he died helping Colin. I mean irl people would not go to a different dimensions for someone they met at the gym. I just feel there is an entire storyline there.

They def had some bonding time in the background, as Colin considers Hemi to be his best friend. A Hemi series will happen, eventually, but it’ll take time to get it right.

I’d give a plus one for a Crowley Spinoff… possibly about his early life and I really liked the novella.

I too wait, with baited breath, for the arrival of “MASTER”, after having inhaled the test of the series over a fortnight! Great read, my thanks! “EVIL” is everything that you say, and I truly hope they plan to revive it for a second season… I’ve been waiting and waiting, and waiting some more ever since the final episode of Season One rolled out. Ahh, well, I can but wait and hope, lol! Thanks for sharing the products of your fertile mind with us, your devoted fans, and I hope to hear from you soon that “MASTER” is ready to read! Keep up the great work!
